STRUCTURE

TITLE or HEADLINE:

- grab reader’s attention, encourage them to read article

- by-line (writer’s name)

INTRODUCTION:

- grab reader’s attention, encourage them to continue reading:  use of attention GRABBERs:

- provocative question

- provocative statement

- personal experience (semi-formal articles)

MAIN BODY:

- “ONE-SIDED APPROACH”: different paragraphs with different points supporting your opinion. Give examples for each point.

- “BALANCED UNDECIDED APPROACH”: There are two sides to the issue. Give both sides with supporting evidence.

CONCLUSION:

                       - Sum up article and give final impression:

- remind main idea

- support action or make a recommendation

- save unexpected chuck of information until the last paragraph (for 1-sided approach)
